Holy Animals Sacred Plants: Responses to Other Lives

12 June - 25 July 2026

Opening event: Thurs 11 June, 6-8pm (all welcome)

Holy Animals Sacred Plants: Responses to Other Lives explores ways of being with non-human animals, plants, and subtle areas of our lives such as dreams and experiences of non-ordinary reality.

This exhibition comprises the work of ten artists and presents paintings, drawings, textiles, mixed-media works and passages of text and film. One of the artists, Kate Walters, has been working with and mentoring the other nine for periods of between 15 and 5 months (and some for many years). The artists exhibiting alongside Kate are: Sally Tripptree, Mydd Pharo, Christine Linfield, Mandy Lancaster, Terese Tubman, Jacky Fox, Lucy Cooper, Danielle Beall-Kemp, Rachael Bice.

Speaking about their process and the exhibition, the group says: ‘We have worked in ceremonial ways according to ancient practices and teaching. We have listened to other voices: those of trees, plants, animals, dreams; and the very quiet ones from deep inside our bodies and psyches. We have responded in a variety of ways: making drawings, writing, filming, and above all noticing and responding with gentleness.’

The title of the exhibition comes from Kate’s experiences with animals throughout her life, when she has seen holiness and sacredness in the very being-ness of the animals and plants which she has loved and nurtured, and which have loved and nurtured her.

Holy Animals Sacred Plants: Responses to Other Lives runs across both floors of Tremenheere Gallery and will be open Tuesday – Saturday, 11am – 4pm. Entry to Tremenheere Gallery is free with most works available to purchase.
