Newlyn School of Art Presents AGORA I

11 - 13 September 2026

11 – 13 September 2026

Opening event: Fri 11 Sept, 5-9pm

AGORA I brings together twenty professional artists from diverse backgrounds and across a wide range of disciplines. Over the past year, they have taken part in the touring AGORA Mentoring Programme, meeting at Newlyn School of Art, Phoenix in Brighton and The Arnolfini in Bristol. The exhibition takes its name from the ancient Greek agora: a public civic space for gathering, debate and trade. At Tremenheere, that idea is reimagined through performance, installation, textiles, sound recording, film, sculpture and painting.

The artists bring varied lives, experiences and perspectives to the work. Their subjects range across migration, health, memory, family, history, climate, faith, mythology and landscape, alongside the interior worlds of dreams, prayer and desire.

AGORA I is a celebration of twenty individual artists, brought together in one shared space, each contributing their own voice, ideas and practice to a rich and wide-ranging exhibition.

The exhibition runs across both floors of Tremenheere Gallery and will be open Fri 11 – Sun 13 Sept, 10am – 4pm. In addition there will be an evening event on the Friday, 5-9pm – all welcome. Entry to the Gallery is FREE.
